My name is Joshua Kulas and I am an undergraduate student at Georgia Institute of Technology. I grew up in Champaign, Illinois and moved to Atlanta four years ago. Occasionally I miss the snow but it’s hard to complain when I can play golf year-round. I enjoy playing golf, traveling (the picture above was taken at the Alhambra in Grenada, Spain) and hopelessly cheering on my Chicago Cubs. This year has to be the year, right? Officially I study industrial engineering but I think “data science” is more accurate.
My passion lies in gleaning insights from large and complex data and creating tools so that others can do the same. Over the past four years I have analyzed health insurance data to drive insurance policy, visualized heart failure data to analyze trends and created a tool to easily compare golf course rankings. The future will see an explosion in data and the sophistication in the tools used to analyze it. I’m excited to be a part of it.
